Town Office staff will be working over the coming days to fold, stuff, and mail tax bills to property owners.

This year’s tax due dates are:

• First Half: November 15, 2026
• Second Half: May 15, 2027

The 2027 mill rate is $14.45 per $1,000 of taxable valuation, representing a $0.40 decrease from last year’s mill rate.

Voters set the interest rate on overdue property taxes at 4%.

Better yet, it ensures that your concern is forwarded to the proper individual who addresses the issue being reported, and provides a tracking dashboard for residents, as well as the town staff to monitor progress in addressing issues.

The next meeting of the Committee will be Thursday October 8, 2026 at 6:30 at the Buckfield Municipal Center.

Of those accounts, 45 were full Homestead Exemptions and 1 was a partial exemption.

All affected accounts have been identified. The Assessor will be issuing abatements to correct the affected tax bills 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭-𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐟 𝐭𝐚𝐱 𝐝𝐮𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞.

If you review your tax bill and believe your Homestead Exemption is missing, we have most likely already identified your account. However, you are welcome to contact the Town Office and speak with the Tax Collector to verify.

The purpose of the public hearing is to review the updated General Assistance Ordinance Appendices and provide members of the public an opportunity to comment prior to consideration by the Select Board.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend and participate.

Paving preparation continues on Allen School Road and Brock School Road, including necessary culvert replacements and roadway repairs.

As Public Works completes this work, portions of the roads may be temporarily closed at times to allow crews and equipment to work safely.

Please plan for possible delays and use an alternate route when necessary.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we prepare these roads for paving.

REMINDER: A permit is required to use the facility. The cost of a permit is $5 per vehicle. You can purchase a permit by visiting either the Buckfield or Sumner Town Office during regular business hours.

Commercial Haulers must possess a commercial hauler permit in order to use the facility. Commercial haulers discovered dumping at the transfer station with a residential permit, will be asked to leave the facility until they have obtained the proper approval and permits. Refusal to follow staff’s requests may result in a denial of commercial hauling priveleges.

Residents and motorists should be aware that a very large oversize load is scheduled to begin traveling from Jay to South Portland on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, beginning at approximately 6:00 PM.

The planned route will bring the transport through Buckfield on Route 117.

The transport convoy will be extremely long and wide and is expected to occupy most of the roadway as it passes through. Motorists should expect slow-moving traffic, delays, and temporary road closures along Route 117 while the convoy moves through town.

Please use extra caution if traveling on Route 117 Tuesday evening.

Residents along Route 117 are also asked to avoid parking vehicles in or along the roadway, as parked vehicles could interfere with the safe movement of the load.

This is expected to be the first of nine oversize loads that will eventually travel this route. Once the first transport is successfully completed, a schedule for the remaining eight loads is expected to be released.

Planned Route:

Riley Road → Crash Road → Route 4 → Route 117 through Buckfield → Route 26 → US 202 → Route 22 → US 1 → Broadway → Elm Street in South Portland

Please plan accordingly and allow additional travel time if you will be using Route 117 Tuesday evening.
