Report an Animal Concern
For animal complaints or concerns about an injured or orphaned animal, call the Oxford County Regional Communications Center at (207) 743-9554, extension 0. The Animal Control Officer will be dispatched.
Emergencies
If an animal is actively attacking a person, creating an immediate threat to public safety, or the situation otherwise requires an emergency response, call 911.
Animal Control Services
The Town of Buckfield provides Animal Control services to help protect the safety and welfare of residents, domestic animals, and the community.
The Animal Control Officer responds to complaints and concerns involving domestic animals and works with residents to address issues in accordance with applicable Town ordinances and Maine law.
Animal Control may assist with matters including:
- Loose or stray dogs
- Dog bites or attacks
- Aggressive or dangerous dogs
- Barking or nuisance complaints
- Animal welfare concerns
- Lost or found domestic animals
- Dogs running at large
- Unlicensed dogs
- Other violations involving domestic animals
Dog Licensing
Dogs age six months and older must be licensed by January 1 each year. Licenses expire December 31.
- Unaltered dog — $11 annual fee.
- Spayed or neutered dog — $6 annual fee.
- Late fee — $25 per dog beginning February 1.
Dog licenses are available through the Town Office or you can renew a dog license online through the State of Maine.
Residents should bring a current rabies vaccination certificate when licensing a dog. Proof of spaying or neutering may also be required if it is not already on file.
Licensing your dog helps ensure that lost animals can be identified and returned to their owners and supports animal control services throughout the State.
Lost or Found Animals
If you have lost a pet or found a domestic animal, contact Oxford County Regional Communications Center (Dispatch) as soon as possible.
Providing a description of the animal, the location where it was last seen or found, and your contact information can help Animal Control respond more effectively.
Wildlife
Animal Control generally handles issues involving domestic animals. Concerns involving wildlife may need to be referred to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Maine Warden Service, or another appropriate agency.
Rabies prevention
Keep pets vaccinated against rabies, including indoor pets that might come into contact with wildlife.
