The Town of Buckfield Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for administering and enforcing the Town’s land use ordinances, building requirements, and applicable state laws.
The Code Enforcement Officer works with property owners, contractors, businesses, and residents to help ensure that development and construction within Buckfield are completed safely and in accordance with local and state requirements.
Before You Build
Permit requirements can vary depending on the type of project, its location, and the characteristics of the property. Projects located near wetlands, streams, ponds, rivers, or other protected resources may be subject to additional requirements.
Obtaining the appropriate permits before work begins can help prevent delays, additional expenses, or enforcement issues.
Planning Board Review
Some projects may require review and approval by the Buckfield Planning Board in addition to permits issued by the Code Enforcement Officer. The Code Enforcement Officer can help determine whether Planning Board review is required and explain the applicable process.
Code Enforcement Complaints
Residents may contact the Code Enforcement Officer with concerns regarding possible violations of Town ordinances or applicable land use regulations.
When submitting a complaint, providing the property location and a clear description of the concern will help staff review the matter. Complaints are evaluated based on the Town’s ordinances, applicable state law, and the information available to the Code Enforcement Officer.

Permit applications and related forms may be obtained through the Town Office or the Town’s website. Applicants should provide complete and accurate information to help avoid delays in the review process.
Approval of a permit by the Town does not eliminate the responsibility of the property owner or contractor to obtain any additional permits or approvals required by state or federal agencies.
