The Buckfield Fire Department provides fire protection, emergency response, and public safety services to the Town of Buckfield. Department members are committed to protecting life and property through emergency response, fire prevention, training, and community service.

Join the Fire Department

The Buckfield Fire Department welcomes residents who are interested in serving their community.

Becoming a member of the department is an opportunity to receive training, develop valuable emergency-response skills, and make a direct difference in the community.

Open Burning & Burn Permits

A burn permit is required for most outdoor burning in Maine. Before conducting an open burn, residents should obtain the appropriate permit and check current wildfire conditions.

Outdoor burning is prohibited when the wildfire danger classification is High, Very High, or Extreme.

Permit holders are responsible for following all conditions and restrictions associated with their permit and for ensuring that fires remain attended and under control at all times.

Fire Safety

A few simple precautions can significantly reduce the risk of fire and help protect your family and your home:

• Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms, and outside sleeping areas.
• Test smoke alarms regularly and replace batteries when necessary.
• Develop a home fire escape plan and practice it with everyone in your household at least twice each year.
• Keep exits, hallways, and stairways clear.
• Never leave cooking, candles, wood stoves, or other open flames unattended.
• If a fire occurs, get out, stay out, and call 911.
