Buckfield-Damon Cemetery

The Buckfield-Damon Cemetery, also known as Buckfield Village Cemetery, is a historic burial ground located on North Buckfield Road in Buckfield, Oxford County, Maine. Serving as the final resting place for many of the town's early settlers and notable figures, the cemetery reflects the rich history of the Buckfield community.

The cemetery comprises two sections: the older Buckfield Village Cemetery and the newer Damon Cemetery. While there is no clear dividing line between them, together they form a unified and serene landscape for remembrance and reflection .(Find a Grave)

Among the notable individuals interred here is Charles H. Prince, a former U.S. Representative from Georgia who returned to Buckfield later in life and passed away in 1912 . The cemetery also includes graves of veterans from various conflicts, reflecting the town's longstanding commitment to service.(Wikipedia)

A detailed plan of the cemetery was drawn on January 9, 1941, as part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Cemetery Plans project. This plan is preserved by the Maine State Archives and provides valuable insights into the cemetery's layout and historical significance .(DigitalMaine)

The Buckfield-Damon Cemetery continues to be maintained by the town, ensuring its preservation for future generations. For more information or inquiries about the cemetery, you may contact the Town of Buckfield at +1 (207) 336-2521.

What does Perpetual Care cover?

Perpetual Care includes the following services:

  • General upkeep of the cemetery grounds, including removal of leaves, fallen branches, and debris.

  • Maintenance of driveways and access paths within the cemetery.

  • Occasional repair of fencing or signage, if applicable.
