Part-Time Transfer Station Attendant (9-Hours/Week)

Location: Buckfield-Sumner Transfer Station
Schedule: Wednesdays only (9-hour shift)
[Potential to become 2-days per week, Wednesday and Saturday]
Pay Range: $16.30 – $17.30 per hour
Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and community-minded individual to join our team as a Transfer Station Attendant. In this role, you will be the face of our waste management facility, ensuring that residents can dispose of waste and recyclables safely, efficiently, and in compliance with local regulations. This is an ideal position for someone looking for consistent weekly hours in an active, outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities

Customer Service: Greet residents, verify permits/stickers, and provide clear directions on where to dispose of specific materials.

Facility Oversight: Monitor the disposal of household waste, recycling, and bulky items to ensure they are placed in the correct containers.

Site Maintenance: Keep the facility clean and organized by sweeping, picking up loose debris, and ensuring access ways are clear.

Safety & Compliance: Enforce facility safety rules and prevent the disposal of prohibited hazardous materials.

Operations: Assist in monitoring container levels and reporting when hauls are needed. Will be tasked with operating a bailer (Cardboard/Plastic), forklift, and backhoe as needed.

Record Keeping: Maintain simple daily logs or collect fees as required by facility policy.
Qualifications & Requirements

Reliability: Since this is a one-day-per-week position, consistent attendance on Wednesdays is critical.

Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).

Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to handle resident inquiries or enforcement of rules with professionalism.

Physical Ability: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

Background: High school diploma or GED preferred; previous experience in waste management or customer service is a plus.

Shift: Wednesdays - 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Hours: 9 hours per week.

Compensation: $16.30 – $17.30/hr (depending on experience).

Reports to: Buckfield Public Works Foreman
